Annual Fly Fishing Day A Resounding Success

Kids for Kids Hosts Successful Executive Fly Fishing Day, Raising Nearly £3,000 to Support Children in Darfur

Kids for Kids held its annual fishing event last weekend, 12th October, at the picturesque Park Lake, Albury, and it was a resounding success! Thanks to the Duke of Northumberland and Earl Percy, and to the incredible efforts of all those who participated and volunteered, we raised just under £3,000 to support vulnerable children in Darfur, Sudan. This wonderful result will enable us to provide 119 Kids Kitchen Kits to families with children aged five and under.

The funds raised will go directly to providing families with fresh produce, lentils, ground nuts and cooking oil, to provide essential proteins and minerals for healthy growth —which has been dangerously lacking in children’s diets all year. Failed crops and ongoing war have devastated the region and families are struggling to survive. These Kids Kitchen Kits are nothing short of a miracle for families in desperate need. The ability to cook and provide a warm meal gives mothers and children hope and helps them fight malnutrition, especially at such a critical time. These kits costs just £25.

Our fishermen/women were spoilt for choice this year, not only were they treated to a delicious spread – including homemade lunch and cakes – but they also caught a few fish during the day.

Patricia Parker OBE, Founder of Kids for Kids, said: “We were so lucky with the weather this year. Thanks to all that attended. I am so touched with the amount of people who come year after year, and bring their friends and family. It’s such a fantastic day out for all. This year has been perhaps the hardest we have ever faced at Kids for Kids. Thanks to everyone involved we have raised enough to help 119 families. This is fantastic but we need to do more. Please do consider gifting Christmas Certificates for all your gifts this year, everything from Goats to our Kitchen Kits because of course as soon as there is stability our aim is to adopt more villages.”

A huge thank you to everyone who cast a line, made a donation, or volunteered at this amazing event. Your support means the world to us and to the families in Darfur who are facing unimaginable hardship.

Together, we are making a difference, one step—or one fish—at a time!

Let’s continue to help children in Darfur have a brighter future, even in the face of conflict. Thank you!
