Children ‘Stride for Sudan’ to Raise Vital Funds

Over 7 Days in October, a team of 24 Adults and Children came together across the UK to walk 250km between them, raising awareness and funds to help families in Darfur. The organiser of ‘Stride for Sudan’, Rosie Hazleton, came up with the idea after hearing a BBC Report about a Mother who walked for 1 Week with her 3 Children, with no food and very little water to get to safety during the ongoing atrocities in Darfur, Sudan. Rosie says, “As a mum I can’t imagine how that must feel – the danger but also not being able to feed your own children. I spoke about it with my girls and their connection to Darfur through their Grandpa and we all agreed we wanted to do something. We came up with the idea of multiple walks over 7 days, to reflect the distance and time the Sudanese mother had walked with her children.” The youngest participants were 8 year-old Fergus and 6 year-old George, who walked 11-miles in the Wylye Valley, Wiltshire. Their cousins Thora (age 14) and Martha Read more

In Loving Memory of Prunella Scales

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our dear friend and supporter, Prunella Scales. Prunella introduced her late husband, Timothy West CBE, to Kids for Kids nearly twenty years ago, beginning a friendship that has meant so much to us all. After that introduction, Timothy became a regular Reader at our Candlelit Christmas Concert, with Prunella faithfully by his side each year. We will miss her deeply this Christmas. She so loved singing the carols, and together they became devoted champions of our work, generously lending their voices, time, and compassion to help change the lives of children in the most remote villages of Darfur, Sudan. Prunella’s warmth, humour, and generosity touched everyone who met her. Her belief in the power of kindness has helped transform countless lives. We will always be deeply grateful for her dedication and the love she showed to Kids for Kids. Our hearts go out to her family, Sam, Joseph and Juliet West, at this sad time. We send our sincere condolences and hold them in our thoughts. Read more

Fly Fishing Feeds Almost 100 Families!

The 2025 Kids for Kids Fly Fishing Day has raised £2,340 in profit, to help Children in Darfur! On Saturday 11th October, a group of over 40 people headed down to the gorgeous Park Lake in Albury near Guildford to go Fly-Fishing – for emergency funds! Our fantastic volunteers, and the Duke of Northumberland who loaned us the use of his private lake, made it possible for us to raise £2,340 in profit which will go directly to providing food for children in Darfur. With this wonderful sum we are able to provide 94 Kids Kitchen Kits to families with children aged, five and under – the most at risk of malnutrition and starvation due to the ongoing conflict. We had a fabulous time out on the lake on Saturday – and especially enjoyed the wonderful food that our volunteers brought! Incredible Lasagne for lunch along with lots of delicious cakes and cookies for afternoon tea kept our fishermen and women going. And…. lots of people caught fish! The largest catch of the day weighed an impressive 11lbs. This has Read more

Be our next CEO!

As Kids for Kids celebrates its 25th birthday next year, we are marking this special milestone with an exciting new chapter in our story. Our Founder and CEO, Patricia Parker OBE, who established the charity in 2001, will be stepping down from her role as Chief Executive, but will continue as Chairman of Trustees and Programme Director, overseeing and managing our vital projects in Darfur.  We are now looking for a new CEO to lead Kids for Kids into the future. This is a unique opportunity to join an award-winning charity and make a real and lasting difference to children and families facing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world. When Patricia first visited Darfur, she saw children living in conditions of extreme deprivation — and she knew something had to change. From that moment, she committed to doing everything possible to help families lift themselves out of poverty through simple, sustainable projects that work with the environment and local conditions. Over the past 24 years, Kids for Kids has transformed the lives of over half a million people in North Read more

Internally Displaced Families Arrive in Um Ga’al Village

Many Internally Displaced (IDP) Families who have had to leave their own villages and travel miles across the desert seeking refuge have found their way to Um Ga’al. Um Ga’al, the first village we adopted in 2001, is the furthest north Kids for Kids Village, and the safest right now as conflict continues. One such IDP family is Madiha, her husband Ibrahim and their eight children – three boys and five girls, with three children under the age of five. In August 2023, Madiha and her family were forced to flee from the area of Abgaw, leaving behind their home and all their belongings. They were living at one of the camps in El Fasher when the violence intensified and grew closer. Therefore, they decided to move once more. Caught between violence and hunger and not sure where to go, they traveled for days seeking refuge in two different towns with no success. In the camp, Madiha’s children were suffering from severe malnutrition, so they left in hopes of better luck finding food and shelter somewhere safer. After traveling for Read more

Plans for a Community Tree Nursery in Um Ga’al Village

At its core, Kids for Kids is not an emergency organisation. We have spent almost 25 years providing sustainable grassroots projects that communities tell us will be the most beneficial to them, and lift families out of abject poverty long-term. Darfur is at the forefront of climate change, with the Sahara creeping south at a rate of three miles a year. Therefore at the root of all our sustainable projects is planting trees to reforest the desert and prevent its spread. Kids for Kids has planted trees that are providing shade, fruit and other byproducts to families in our 110 villages where temperatures are rising over 38c to 50c, and food and water are scarce. Trees we have planted are currently providing immense relief to families who are suffering the consequences of the ongoing conflict. This month, the UN reported: “The situation is particularly dire in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur province, which has witnessed some of the worst episodes of the ongoing conflict between rival militaries. Those remaining in El Fasher are facing “extreme shortages” of food Read more
